Angel's Envy Private Selection Port Casks Finish Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
By now everyone in the whiskey space, from seasoned veterans to beginning drinkers, has heard about Angel’s Envy. They may not have a bottle, but they’ve at least tried it at their local watering hole. In recent years, Angel's Envy has given bars and retailers the opportunity to pick out a single barrel of their delicious bourbon!
Angel’s Envy makes two core products: a Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey finished in port wine barrels and a Kentucky straight rye whiskey finished in Caribbean rum casks. They also have a limited-edition cask-strength bourbon that is released once a year. In addition, Angel’s Envy has released a few neat “one-offs,” such as an ice wine cider cask finished rye whiskey.
Angel’s Envy was launched by Lincoln Henderson, former Master Distiller for the Brown Forman corporation and inaugural Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame inductee, and his son Wesley “Wes” Henderson. Shortly after launch, Kyle Henderson, Lincoln’s grandson, joined the team. The three of them were working together until Lincoln’s death in 2013.
Here at LoveScotch, we’re excited to be able to offer a hand-selected single barrel of their bourbon whiskey finished in port casks in collaboration with Vintage Wine & Spirits. Clocking in at 55% ABV or 110 proof this is sure to be a delight!
Appearance: In the glass, the whiskey presents a nice amber color, with a slight lean into gold.
Nose: The aroma of this whiskey has lots of shortbread cookies and croissant. It has delicate notes of orange marmalade that give way to brown butter. At the tail end, there is a note of candy corn.
Palate: For 55% ABV this is a very approachable dram. The front of the palate has lots of brown sugar and custard. Following that, there are stewed fruits like cherries and oranges. Some vanilla, caramel, and toasted oak flesh out the mid-palate with hints of milk chocolate. On the back palate and finish, there are lots notes of leather and tobacco.
