Glendalough Poitín Mountain Strength
Glendalough Poitín Mountain Strength serves as a nostalgic journey to the origins of Irish spirits, harking back to the days before whiskey became the prominent drink. Poitín, an ancestral Irish spirit, holds a pivotal role in the global history of distillation, recognized as one of the earliest distilled spirits. The dedicated team at Glendalough Distillery, driven by a shared passion for Irish heritage, is actively engaged in a mission to revive and reintroduce this nearly forgotten gem to a modern audience.
Delving into its tasting notes, Glendalough Poitín Mountain Strength presents a crystal-clear appearance with an invigorating aroma marked by intense freshness. Notable elements include robust pepper spice and a subtle hint of wintergreen. The taste profile is distinguished by a controlled heat, a testament to the art of distillation, accompanied by a dominant malt flavor that creates a chewy texture reminiscent of sourdough bread. The enduring finish, characterized by a lingering heat and lively peppercorn essence, underscores the authenticity of this blend composed of malted barley, sugar beet, and potatoes. It stands as a robust representation of Ireland's rich distillation heritage, offering enthusiasts an authentic and potent poitín experience.
This mountain strength poitín, boasting a formidable 60% ABV, pays homage to the deep-rooted traditions upheld by the mountain folk who value the genuine nature of their spirits. Subjected to a double distillation process in pots, naturally yielding a potency in the 60s, this poitín manifests as a robust expression with well-distilled malt flavor, evoking the texture of sourdough bread. The distillery's unwavering commitment to authenticity and heritage shines through in every sip, making this intensely fresh and invigorating spirit a testament to Glendalough's dedication to preserving the essence of Ireland's distillation legacy.
